A few of us came out of building Youzan, with backgrounds between us in big-data engineering, AI systems, and sport science. Over the last few years we kept running into the same annoyance in our own training: the phone could already record every set, the gym was full of people half-sure their squat was off, and nobody had really closed the gap between the video on the phone and the question that actually matters under the bar — am I doing this safely, and how do I make the next rep better.
That's the problem we picked. Most lifters never get consistent eyes on their technique; a handful of bad reps under load are how small issues become real ones. With pose estimation, bar-path tracking, and velocity-aware analysis finally good enough to run from a single phone clip, we think the cost of getting honest feedback on squat, bench press, and deadlift can come down a lot.

When we make a claim about technique, loading, or injury risk, we try to anchor it to peer-reviewed work and say where the evidence is strong versus mixed. We'd rather lose a reader than push someone into a set they shouldn't have done.
